Craig Redman will lead South Bend Adams football into its Class 5A sectional semifinal Friday after head coach Frank Karczewski was confirmed to be away from the team.

The coaching change was first reported by Sports Michiana. Redman, an Adams assistant and former head coach, will serve as acting head coach.

The South Bend Community School Corporation confirmed to ABC57 that Karczewski is away from the program. The district did not disclose the reason for his absence.

Adams enters the sectional semifinal with a 5-4 record. The Eagles will host Concord, which is 4-5, at Everwise School Field on Friday, Oct. 30.

The school's official game announcement lists kickoff for 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m., and tickets cost $8 per person.

Redman previously served as Adams head coach from 2011 to 2015. Sports Michiana reported that the Eagles completed their first winning regular season since 2016 before the coaching change.

Karczewski is in his fifth season as Adams head coach. He played quarterback at Adams before returning to lead the football program.

The team now faces its postseason opener with a different coach on the sideline.

According to the Indiana High School Athletic Association tournament bracket, a victory over Concord would send Adams to the sectional championship Friday, Nov. 6.

The Eagles would face the winner of the LaPorte-Goshen semifinal.
